Crocheted Elephants

Our friends recently had a 2nd baby girl. I wondered what to get for little Zooey that she didn't already have(the 2nd baby inheritance rule). I decided to make something for her. So I put my crochet talent and some pink yarn to use. I made it up as I went along and I am pretty pleased with the results! Here are some pictures....

Also on a side note I will be occupying a corner of a craft table at the end of November, I will post pictures of my wares as I make them!!!

53.555868,-113.488957- Crafting Haven!

My crafting haven now has a permanent address! We had an extra room in our house that was sitting empty after we let a friend in need use the bed that was occupying it! "What to do with all this space?" was the thought that was running through my head.... I have always wanted an area that was solely dedicated to crafting and all the messiness that it entails. Andrew was also keen on the notion as it would mean that all my mess would be confined to one area... (ha ha ha) So we set about reorganizing and purging(its amazing how much stuff one can collect in attempts of recycling, scavenging... or the thought..."hmmm this will come in useful later" which, sadly, it never does) and we came up with a glorious work room! On one side is all my craft paraphernalia and on the other- in the closet is our computer desk/Andrews recording area! We took the mirrored doors of the closet and are going to make built in desk and shelves to better organize and utilize our space, but over all I am SO happy my sewing machines now have a place to call home.(previously when I wasn't using them the cats liked to sleep on them) This endeavor took way more time than I thought.... a couple days.... with a baby you can never work straight through.... but it was all worth it!!!! Here is a picture!

The box below the desk is FULL of tomatoes!
This is the MASSIVE plant I picked all the tomatoes from-
It started as an itty bitty 3 inch plant!

When I picked the plant clean I filled this box half full-

I sorted all my tomatoes so they would ripen

I cleaned my garden out and with its produce, I now have a pot of beet borscht simmering on the stove - my favorite soup of all time! Ahhh I love the fall and harvest time! More posts to come as I am determined in the next week to finish off at least a few of several projects I have going!!!

p.s. Unfortunately as I write this blog I am listening to nothing.... the audio isn't working for our computer...

no time to craft- only time to bake/cook/can!

Hello,
I am taking a short break from my very hot -messy- but good smelling kitchen. I haven't been able to craft much recently as my neighbors apple tree has been softly calling to me to come pick its fruits. So pick I did. I came home with two giant reusable grocery bags full of sweet, yet tart McIntosh apples. And I have to use them fast other wise they will turn soft and then I cant use my borrowed apple peeler/corer on them- and there's NO way I am peeling them all by hand!!

In one day I made apple strawberry pie, apple sauce, and apple peel jelly(cant waste a thing!) and to top it off I made some home made chicken noodle soup! Andrew has been very happy to witness this culinary accomplishment and partake of the fruits of our(he helped with the canning!) labor. Andrew fulfills a very necessary role when I am in the middle of my domestic hurricanes. He is my picker-upper. I *try* to load the dishwasher and keep it going while I am buzzing through my kitchen, but often I get so involved with the task at hand that I let the dishes pile up. That's also where Andrew comes in! I get the joy of cooking, and cooking in a clean kitchen! I am always happy to cook for him, as he makes the task SO much easier!

I wish you were all here to help me enjoy- hopefully these pictures are appetizing enough!

Inspiration.

Often I am quite impressed with my little crafting creations and get that old fashion sense of pride when I show them to my adoring audience(husband and baby daughter) While this very fulfilling(husband- lovingly nods and daughter- nonchalantly slobbers) I thought it would be fun to expand my audience to those of you who are interested enough to share in my crafting universe.

I love exchanging new ideas, finding tips and tricks, learning new arts, and generally sharing my crafting addiction with others... Enter my closest kindred spirit- with an email linking me to her crafty blog- and voila, I was inspired, and enter the blogosphere I did.

I am proud of myself, in this respect as I created this blog, without the slightest bit of help from my husband(knower of all things technological)! Although at some point I will have to have him teach me how to giga bite and hypo link..... :)

Below is a list(resume, if you will) of some of my crafting/artistic endeavors. If you have ever embarked on any of the following I would love to start a dialogue with you!

crocheting
knitting
drawing
painting(water color, oils, oil pastel)
sewing (designing and pattern)
quilting
batik
tie-dye
pottery(wheel/sculpture)
collage
photography
photo-shopping(digitally enhancing photographs)
stain glass
needle felting
cross stitch
calligraphy
flower arranging
mosaic (glass/ceramic tile)
rug making (braided and tooth brush)
silk screening
corn husk dolls
card making
scrap booking
....to name a few that I can remember ;)

I have to admit that many of these attempts have ended in misery.... or have been left wallowing unfinished along the wayside on my list of crafting priorities....

But as I go through my craft bins/boxes/suitcases(I could go on forever) I will take pictures of my attempts and post them!

I am also a great lover of music, and with each post I want to share with you amazing music to craft by! (right now I’m listening to Landon Pigg... specifically “coffee shop”)

In conclusion.... What do I hope to accomplish?
Be able to connect with other crafters. Chronicle my attempts at creativity. Share my ideas with other crafters. Receive feedback and tips on crafting. And maybe if there is interest, sell(the position of “stay at home mom” doesn’t exactly come with a pension plan) or trade wares!
